About the Brand
Boozhoo (hello), and welcome! The mission of Soul Curiosity is to inspire holistic lifestyles through the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual elements of the Medicine Wheel. My name is Tessa Sayers, founder, owner and designer.
The natural evolution of Soul Curiosity arose from my personal struggles with autoimmune disease and agoraphobia; a specific form of anxiety. In 2001, I experienced a debilitating panic attack that quickly evolved into full blown agoraphobia (click here to read about my journey with agoraphobia). Eleven years later in 2012, I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease (click here to read about my journey with autoimmune). I struggled to adapt and accept the overwhelming combination of dealing with anxiety and a significant health condition.
Through counseling, self-help books and naturopathic medicine I started to see a positive change physically and emotionally. With teachings of the Native American medicine wheel, I took a more holistic approach to life and a more green approach to living by using non-toxic beauty and household products. I changed my eating habits and started peeling back layers of unprocessed life experiences, shifted through limiting beliefs and incorporated new healing modalities such as poetry, yoga, gratitude, smudging, journaling and meditation into my daily routine. I drew inspiration from my indigenous heritage; Ojibwe, Cree and Metis, using art therapy as one of my primary methods to heal.
I want to share my experience with others because I know what it feels like to be in a dark place. I know what it's like to feel different, misunderstood, ashamed, confused and wondering if anyone else ever felt the way I did. I know what it feels like to be busy and overwhelmed; asking yourself "how will I have time for this, how will I afford this, how do I know what is right for me?" I want Soul Curiosity to be a platform where people feel uplifted, hopeful, empowered and validated. I want people to realize they are not alone, we all struggle with something and with courageous action, we can evolve into the best versions of ourselves. Life doesn't get better, you do!
Through this process, I have learned change involves taking healthy risks and requires us to step outside our comfort zones. It means we have to be vulnerable and authentic with ourselves and others. We have to drop the excuses and find ways to incorporate healthy and self-healing habits. No matter your situation, there is always something you can start doing, even if it's small. It requires patience and self-love as you work through the highs and lows of inner work. It is a journey of self-discovery that never ends. You will never be perfect; however, the personal awareness and self-growth are one of the best gifts you can give yourself and others. Through beadwork, clothing, blankets, blogs, poetry, recipes, tips and helpful resources, I hope to ignite your curiosity; to navigate the uncharted waters of yourself, revealing the beautiful soul that has always been within you.
